The Story.
In a strenuous effort to achieve a true red in our doodle pups we introduced our Irish Doodles in 2012. We were the first to pioneer the breed with any success. We are very proud of our beautiful Irish pups and they are all major head turners.
We began with two exceptional dogs that we raised to be the first parents to see if there was any interest. Maggie, a stunning deep mahogany AKC Irish Setter and Mac, a beautiful red Standard Poodle produced our first litter in April, 2012.
We were so stunned with the beauty, charm and calm temperaments of our Irish puppies that we knew this line was a keeper. Since that time, we have added many Irish Setter moms to pair with our red poodle boys. Down the line we added the f1b Irish for those who just love the curlier coat and for those who have extreme allergy issues. Later, we added the Irish Red and Whites for a more petite line which we have paired with our moyen stud for smaller more medium size Irish. This line does have the higher energy and is recommended for active families and couples who are looking for a great running companion! They produce beautiful reds with white markings and whites with red spots, like their moms. These are truly unique and another Mckenzie first!
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not add that they are also very hard to hold a red coat with :( In spite of our moms being deep mahogany red, the fading genes of the poodle will cause the coat to lighten in most cases. The Setter darkens as it ages and the poodle lightens but it is impossible to say which way any given pup will go. We do not want anyone to be disappointed or to feel deceived so we want to make sure you are aware of this tendency before purchasing. In the face of this happening frequently to our pups as they age, they remain the most popular of our breeds as they are very winsome and have personalities that make it all worthwhile ;)
