Frequently asked questions.

  • This is always a question that is asked but the answer is much simpler than you might think. I suggest that you bring a towel or two, just in case of an 'accident' by the puppy, and someone to hold him/her on the trip home. You will likely have no shortage of volunteers for this job :) Most make it home without incident, but the towel will be ready in case they do not :) Puppies do experience some trauma when leaving their littermates. It is a bit of a shock to them and they need all the snuggling and reassurance they can get!

Putting them in a crate is too impersonal and you can expect them to howl all the way home. They are lonely since they are used to having multiple other siblings to play with at a moment's notice up until that time. When you hold them, or place them on the floorboard where you can reach them to reassure them, then the trip is less frightening to them. The close contact on the trip also allows for bonding to take place with the puppy, and whoever is holding them. This is a good thing. This helps prevent as much trauma as possible and actually secures his dependence upon you or your family right away.

  • Many people want to buy collars, leashes, crates, etc., before they come to pick up their pups. We think this is a good idea and we recommend that you do not take your puppy into a pet store until they've had three rounds of shots. A good basic list of items to have on hand includes:

Adjustable Collar, Name Tag, 6 Foot Leash, Food and Water bowls, Food Storage Bin, Good Quality Puppy Food, Crate, 4-5 Inexpensive Bath Towels, Several Types of Toys, Slicker Brush, Chew Treats, Training Treats

  • We’re sorry there were no puppies available at the time you were looking but there’s good news! We take deposit reservations up to 9 months in advance!

Your deposit will secure your spot on a future litter within 9 months of receipt of your deposit. Please note that there may be circumstances out of our control that may delay the arrival of the litter of your choosing. If this should occur, we will contact you right away to discuss your options.

Just give us a call or email to reserve your puppy!

  • Our puppies each come with a puppy take home bag! This will include their first set of vaccinations and de-worming, a clean bill of health from our vet, a 2-year genetic health guarantee (see our website page for more details on it!), a sample bag of their current food (we feed FROMM brand - the gold & blue bag), a blanket with the mother/littermate scent on it, a toy, woodchips (how we start them on potty training), a sample of diatomaceous earth (see our Health & Diet video on how and why to use this as a natural alternative), and lifetime breeder support from us - we are always here to answer any questions and love to stay in touch with families!

  • We are located in Middletown, Virginia. For families who live further away, please message us for options on bringing your pup home! We are so grateful to have see our Mckenzie’s Doodles find homes all across the United States and internationally!

  • McKenzie’s Doodles has a Guardian Program that places our breeding dogs in private homes (their forever homes!) where they can live a normal life in a loving family instead of a kennel situation. Our parent dogs are placed as puppies and never know life in a kennel. When our parent dogs retire from breeding, they are HOME and do not get placed with strangers after their years of service :) The only draw back to the our program is that the parents are not available to be seen on demand. We do have photos, bios, and videos of all our parent dogs and we love to share updates from our Guardian Families on our social media pages! We find that the benefits of the program to the dogs far outweigh the drawbacks. Please click here to read all about our Guardian Program and see available parent dogs looking to be placed in their forever homes!
