Sheepadoodles

The Sheepadoodle is a planned cross between the glorious Old English Sheepdog (OES) and the brilliant, non shedding and hypoallergenic Poodle. Everyone knows how smart the Poodle is (2nd smartest in dogdom) and how quickly they train. They have wonderful family-friendly dispositions in the standard and carefully chosen moyen (medium) sizes, are loyal and loving and get along well with other animals. Their coats bring the non shed, high allergy tolerance that everyone is looking for in this day of pervasive allergies. When combined with the Old English, it is a marriage of perfection...at least we think so!

Meet Huck.

Our stud and house pet, Huckleberry, is just the finest dog you would ever want to meet! He is the quintessential embodiment of what you think of when you think of the classic 'Disney' Old English Sheepdog (OES) that have played such a big role in earlier movies and caused us all to fall in love with the breed! In the 1970's the OES became seriously overbred and produced negative traits such as neurotic, aggressive, high strung behavior but we have succeeded in dodging that bullet with our Huck! (Even after having to retire two girls before they could become moms because of their temperaments.)

The perfect dog.

Our Huck is from the old lines of well-bred dogs with wonderful dispositions that make great family pets! He still thinks he is a pup and would live in our laps if possible! He is very social and loving and is devoted to his 'herd' (family). He has to be with you 'helping' with everything and making sure everyone is safe. He is also a huge clown! He has a facial expression that is so comical and looks like he is telling a joke. We are crazy about this dog and he has fit into our home like a glove. He is also very smart, so don't let the goofiness fool you. A lot of breeders claim that the Old English does not shed. Jim had one growing up and begs to differ. However, Huck has always been an inside dog with lots of in and out time and we have never seen any shedding in either his long 'hay stack' coat or his shorter summer coat. That said, it is possible this is different with different lines. We have had no reports of shedding from our customers yet, which is a good sign.

The sheepdog, being a 'working' dog, is also known to nip at the heels of those he is trying to herd. We know this is classic, but this too, has been something we have not seen in Huck. He will stand in front of you to 'hold you in place' but there has never been any nipping. However, we not sure that this is an inherited trait. We know it sounds like we think our Huck is perfect...and maybe we do...but this has been our experience with the dad to all of our Sheepadoodles and we are very proud to offer you his wonderful genetics and always happy outlook in any of his puppies! All of the Poodle girls that we use are impressively chill and loving. We are very happy with each of them and the great things they have to pass on. So, when you are thinking 'doodle', consider this amazing blend of the best of two worlds to add to your 'herd'!
